- Ask how dust, access, debris and occupied areas will be managed.
Questions worth asking
- Who is the day-to-day contact?
- Which decisions must be made before work starts?
- How are inspections and subcontractors coordinated?
What belongs in the written scope?
Drawings or scope, material selections, allowances, exclusions, schedule milestones and a written change-order process.
A local detail to check
For a newer home, check existing builder and manufacturer warranties before authorizing repairs. For an addition or conversion, confirm which city or county office handles permits for the property.
Use the Tennessee license verification service and the state’s contractor consumer resources as starting points. Confirm project requirements with the appropriate local office.
